Dale Cassell, Tenor
I live in a little community called Sunset, SC along with my lovely wife Cheryl of 24 years. We have two children, Joseph and Eden. Joseph and his wife Morgan are proud parents of two children, Josie-Cate ( age 4) and Breyer ( age 1).
Cheryl and I are members of Holly Springs Baptist Church in Pickens, SC, where we sing in the choir and are members of our church praise team. We live in the house where I was raised and if The Lord wills, I plan to live here until He calls me home.
My father has always been a musician, so I grew up around country music and gospel groups, like the Chuckwagon Gang, the Lewis Family The list goes on.
I began ministering in Southern Gospel when I was around 12 years old and in Junior High School. A fellow classmate approached me about singing with their family group, called the Carolina Quartet.
At first I thought they were looking for a lead singer. When I arrived for our very first meeting, they began playing the Inspirations and Kingsmen music and asked if I could sing the highest part. I didn’t even know what Tenor was (other than choral group) which I learned wasn’t quite the same... but being young and adventurous, I gave it a try and it seemed to click. You see, I’ve never been good at reading music but I could hear the part. I must have done okay because they invited me to join.
Since my dad was a lead guitar player and my brother played bass guitar, we all became a part of the group and began traveling and ministering most weekends in North and South Carolina and occasionally further distances. It was mostly local churches and events.
I sang with Harvey, Clayton, and Dewayne Trotter until I graduated from high school in 1980 and began the life of continuing my education and working to pay for it. This took me off the road much of the time, but I continued singing at churches, weddings, and even funerals as opportunities arose.
However, I did travel with a group that my sister and some friends formed in the 1980’s until 1990. We called the group "Daybreak" and I still cherish the memories and times we spent together traveling across South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia.
In 1993, a few acquaintances and I gathered together to have a basic sing-a-long, and by June of that year had birthed the group, "Heartsound."
I remember our first singing opportunity outside of the home church.... we still didn’t have a official name.
I have been ministering for the majority of 48 years. The purpose of standing before a group of people regardless of how large or small, IS proclaiming the good news that God loves people and that Jesus still saves!
It still thrills and excites me and brings joy to my life. I thank God continually for the small part that he allows me to play in His proclamation of the good news. Not just at church but at home, at work, and wherever I may find myself.
God is so good and if you don’t know him, you need too. He will be the best friend that you’ve ever had. He’s the perfect Father and will care for you like no one else can.
